Still kick'n in 2012...

...and the fog slowly lifts



So like ya, it was pretty well touch & go there for quite awhile in my little world and of course my blogging suffered badly for it as you've no doubt noticed eh.:) Sometimes life can give ya a real brutal shake, a harsh reality bite, if you will. How we handle those painful times are a measure of our true character and make us stronger for the experience. Making it through bad times is indeed some of the hardest things we'll ever do,depending on how hard the times are of course. The important thing is to never, say never. Never, ever, give up.

Things in my neck of the woods are beginning to look better again. Praise God! My health is almost where it used to be ten or fifteen years ago. I'm certainly getting in my share of heavy exercise and muscle toning and also it must have something to do with what I've been trying hard to feed my body in the last few years. Even on a long and very low budget, I've managed to enliven my gently aging body with powerful and natural, live cell building nutrients, while also cutting way back on foods that I know are bad for me, and you for that matter eh. It's all pay'n off in aces. :)

I intend, like in the past, to share some of my power foods experiences and pictures in here in the coming months, now that I've regained a little chunk of semi-stability and my mind can go where it want's to, instead of where it has to.

I hope your health is better than good my friends. Maybe you can add something later on, to my lists of power foods that you've had success with too?

Hopefully, these ideas should draw you a rough picture of what I can do for you and or someone you know. I can also work with up to four people at the same time. Couples are awesome to work with too and have been known to kind of re-discover themselves somewhat during a half day session Outdoors with me. I can guarantee that you will most definitely be better, at your Outdoorsy thing, after working with me, even once. Now that winter is here, indoor learning also comes more into play and I find that people really learn well in the warmth and comfort and safety of their own home. I travel to you. Well, depending on distance of course.

I am a very flexible guy and I gear my exact coaching style and methods to whatever it is that you, in particular as an individual, needs to improve upon. Indoors, outdoors, winter, summer, spring and fall, I'm here to share it all with You! Working one on one with me, can really change how you look at the outdoors in general and what and how you do out there in 2010.

To accommodate even more outdoorsy inclined folks this year, I'm keeping my fees Very affordable so that almost anyone can spend a few hours at least, rubbing shoulders with me, picking my brain for whatever they want and need. My goal is to make You better at whatever it is you'd like to learn about the most, in real time!

This first lady is the owner of a very cool blog which I just discovered recently. Sherri Russel loves sharing the outdoors with other women who haven't had many opportunities to feel Natures power and pull. Peeps and Hats...

I've met a lot of people over the years out there when fishing so I thought I'd share two of my latest new FF's, that's Fishing Friends, with y'all in here to-day. I've noticed that one of the neat things that most fishermen/women have in common, is, a love for a favorite fishin' hat. They come in every shape, size, color, design etc that you can imagine. You've probably seen a few sweet ones yourself and even own a pretty cool one too. :-)

So anyway, I think these two recent ones are outstanding! Here's my new friend Jim's contribution to my fishin' hat picture collection. We met a few weeks ago on the canal and spent well over an hour just talkin' and fishin' and mentioning a few times how good it was to be alive out there, by the lake and all. :-)

This next picture, is my other new friend from the Internet, Caro Houle with a real nice Small Mouth Bass. Although the bass is cool, what really got me though is her awesome fishin' hat! ;-) I met Caro through some of her friends on Twitter and figured most of my readers would also get a bit of a kick out of this particular little lady's lion hat. :-)

Man, I feel like I'm gonna have to get me a new style, fancy, cool, hat too. All I seem to ever wear, are these more serious lookin' ball caps. Boring... Sheesh, I've gotta learn ta lighten up a little on the head pieces, eh? :-) I mean, like, these two cool fisher persons sure look like they're having a good time, and they're Not wearing trucker caps. Hmmmm.

Meet the Tadfry...

Outsides4me's Pollywog...

Pollywog or Tadfry, it doesn't really matter what you call this tiny killer crank! My friend Outsides4me, shared this fine picture of this sweet little crank-bait on his Photostream over on Flickr a while back. So you see, because I've been using this scary little puppy for over a decade now, and have caught a pile of fish with it, I get to share it with you in here to-day, through my man, Outsides4me.

If You are already getting a kick out of using Ultra-lite fishing tackle, then you really owe it to yourself to hunt this awesome little micro plug down in your favorite tackle outlet. O.K. so you may not catch too many hogs on the Tadfry but, you will make up for that, in sheer numbers of fish caught. Guaranteed! :-)

Seriously, if there are any fish around and it doesn't matter much what kind of fish, tossing this fish magnet out there, WILL bring strikes! Use four pound test line with this delicately balanced plug, or six at most, so as not to hamper it's great action.

Sunfish and Bluegills will smash this thing! Crappies suck it in like there is no tomorrow too. Small and Large Mouth Bass won't even think twice about crushing this lively, floating diving little tidbit, as well. :-) The last time I used it on Yellow Perch, I landed 43 in an hour and only had three of 'em flip off. That teeny treble on the Tadfry is always kept razor sharp, so sticking fish is never a problem. If they touch it at all, it's like glue! ;-)

Don't horse your fish in though or that micro hook will indeed rip right out of their mouths. Instead, take it easy and have yourself a little fun with those wild fish on your Ultra-lite set-up. Keep the drag fairly light and almost all the fish feel like big ones. More fish on the line, is the reward, when you scale your stuff down with a finesse style approach, like this.

Remembering...

Robert H. Jones

Here as you can see, is a copy of two old pictures of one of my real life hero's out there doing his thing. The top pic shows Bob on the left, fast at work photographing a thrashing Salmon, with Pete Sticklee on the net and an agile John Kerr playing the fish. On the far right is none other than the well known Burt Meyers, of Ontario Out Of Doors Magazine fame, doing what he likes to do, mingling with his boys! :-) I, luckily enough, was there too and took this picture and others of the whole crew on Sticks' big boat, with my little Pentax SP500 (back then) and gave most of 'em to the boys. Wish I'd have kept a few of the nice ones of Bob with his fish, now though.

The next shot was taken shortly after Bobby moved to British Columbia. Yup, fighting another beauty, and all decked out in west coast Fly-Man's Garb! Lookin' Good Bobby!

I originally got to know this amazing man after meeting him while I was working at Laurentian Trading Post, at the fishing counter. We then fished many times together, and covered lots of different water and fishing techniques, in his old "Tin Goose", Bobs' beloved Sportspal canoe. :-) I respected this man as much if not more than I did my own dad. Bob always felt like an older, bigger, cooler, brother to me.

I ran into another old and mutual friend of ours, Grant Hopkins, the other day, while exploring part of the Canal system. Grant had found out over a year ago that Bob had left here for the big fishing hole in the sky. :-( Man, talk about a heavy and very SAD feeling overcoming me. Sheesh, can't even describe the powerful loss I felt there, as Grant shared a few of the details that he knew, with me.

You see folks, sadly, I have to report that my old friend Bob Jones, is now one of the "Dearly Departed" on my list of great people I have known in my life. I wrote a little more about Bob on my other blogs too. I feel the need to get this out there, because this man was way, way more, than just a fisherman or a writer or a photographer.

He had a very special way of impacting people that he met, especially if they showed him a fondness for fishing or rods and rivers and such. He was also a really, really, good teacher too. As a matter of fact, at one point in our lives, Bob was indeed, my real life Fishing Sensei, especially when it had to do with Jig tying and Fly Fishing. He patiently answered so many of my questions and I absorbed as much as I could from him. But, there was always more, with Bob. Tireless he was!

Anyone can put together a nice blog, something that they can share with the whole blinkin' world. If you are an artist or a photographer, amateur or Pro, a blog can really help you get your stuff out there.
Remember, you are NEVER too old or too young, to start or to run, a blog. ;-)

Every Day Carry or EDC

What do you carry with you, every day?

Last year I wrote a post to do with that topic, on one of my other blogs about EDC stuff, at Kool Keys...Of course I'm sure you know that EDC stands for Every Day Carry and means just that. What's in your pockets or on your person on a daily basis? There are tons of Cool gizmo's out there these days so it would be neat for me to see or hear about, what You EDC. The best forum on the net is actually called, EDCForums and can be found right here. What do You EDC? Go check 'em out if you like gadgets and stuff. ;-)

Lucky for me, I met Christine Cope online a little while back through our common interest in Fishing and Communicating about it. ;-) I usually recognize talented people when I meet then in life and this young woman stood right out from the start. Toronto singer dies in Cape Breton coyote attack

Very Sad story to share to-day...

Such a tragedy...

While visiting this amazing young woman's Facebook page earlier on, I broke down in tears. Trust me, I don't cry often. :-( I really found myself filled with a deep sadness for Taylor, as I read some of the things which she had talked about as well as some of the responses from others, on her wall. :-(

The chances of this ever even happening are very slim and yet it happened. Coyotes do not usually attack full sized adults but then again, they're just animals. Probably very hungry, therefore desperate, animals. Unfortunately Taylor's story sheds a little more light on just how fragile and unpredictable, life can be, for any of us. Here's the story I put up on my little Facebook wall, right after visiting hers.

I also shared Taylor Mitchell's story with the people on Twitter this morning so that a few more folks could feel for this young woman with So much going for her, right up until last Tuesday. Go and read her Facebook stuff too, if you have a little time. You will see for yourself, just how her life plan, was working out just the way she wanted it too. You'll see that her goals were being met and she was really starting to make a difference out there, and get recognized for it. She was doing everything right folks.

We are all sort of like a burning candle I guess. We don't know how big or small that candle is, nor do we ever know how long it will burn. We also NEVER know exactly When or How, it will burn out or blow out, or get snuffed out. Therefore maybe, like Taylor, we should ALL perhaps try to live each day doing the stuff we enjoy the most because as we know, Life Is Short...

R.I.P.Taylor Mitchell! Thank You So Much, for the many wonderful times you've shared with us in the past. You have warmed many hearts and will warm many more in the future, as we listen to your gift to us all, your beautiful music...

I Know It Is Possible To Live With Zero Money, Abundantly...

What an interesting title and website...

While touring around the web a little tonight, looking for not necessarily Outdoorsy stuff, I happened to stumble onto this very different way of thinking, type of website. It could go a long ways towards opening the average public's eyes and ears, if it was passed along. So, I'm passing it on, to you, my gentle reader. Maybe You will care to share it as well. :-)

I Know It Is Possible To Live With Zero Money, Abundantly...

I've done a little of some of the stuff this man does, myself, so I can relate to lots of what he's talkin' about pretty well. He's got some great quotes which I've (coincidentally) personally used in the past, on there too as well as many hyper-links that will get you thinking, a little more...

Birthday fishin'...

Ottawa River Fishin' trip...

Thanx to the planning of my two good friends, Jack and Arthur, I spent the past week-end with them, fishing the Mighty Ottawa River! Although I was sworn to secrecy by Captain Jack, about the exact spot where we were fishing, I can say that it was a number of miles downstream from Petrie Island. :-)

It didn't take long for Jack's Walleye tracking skills to put us on to some fish on his slick Eagle "magic box" out there in the 25 to 35 foot range. The current there is fairly strong and of course, I had nothing in my box that weighed more than a quarter ounce. So, like a good skipper would, Jack set me up with a heavier jig head, a cool white curly critter plastic body and dressed it up full tilt with a beautiful Emerald Shiner. Woa! Now that's what ya need out here, says I. :-)

The next flip into the wind and water, I let 'er sink on a semi-tight line and felt a slight ease-off with about fifty feet of mono out there. I lifted the rod tip slowly, keeping a nice gentle bend in it, until it showed that my set-up should be a foot or so off bottom. Just swimming there, slowly in the current. Tap! Bang! Bang! YA! Fish On! :-) The hook is well set and the fish is coming up nicely under control. Thrash, splash, thrash! Scoop! In the net like it's supposed to be done. Nice eater, what?
River Wally...

In all of the excitement that followed, I regret not getting a decent shot of Arthur's first ever Sauger. The good part is, I lucked out and Pentaxed him with his first ever Channel Catfish. :-) Mostly, the poor guy so far has had to content himself with some nice messes of Trout! :-)

Cat Man Dooo...

To prove that there is indeed a healthy population of Sauger in the Big-O, my man Jack, reeled this puppy in and held it long enough for me to Digitize it for y'all! He's usually pretty quick about getting fish back in the drink or in the box so I'm pleased to see this pic turned out swell. :-) Nice one there good buddy!

Nice Ottawa River Sauger

One of the reasons I really love fishing the Ottawa River, is the variety of fish it holds. You never really know what you are going to catch, on any given day, at any given time. :-) How many of you have ever laid eyes on one of these fellas? Better yet, how many folks out there have ever hooked and landed one of these really neat looking fish?

Big Eyes...

This was one healthy looking and acting fish my friends. It's called a Mooneye and he had quite a few similarities to Trout, now that I come to think of it. A real sort of "pretty" fish, if you know what I mean, jelly-bean. ;-)

Ta-Da!

Of course what good trip doesn't end with a really good fish, eh? My friend, Walleye Jack, knows his stretch of this ol' river real well and comes up with decent fish even when others don't. Despite the stiff competition from Art and I, we never even came close to beating his best for the trip and as you can see here, it Was a Good'n!
Here's a Hog-Eye...

Congrats on such a fine fish Jack-man! It was great being there in the Legend with you and Art, when that fatty came aboard! :-) Hey dude, we could pretty well send this shot to Ontario Out of Doors or Outdoor Canada or somebody. They like these kinds of shots for their covers you know. ;-)

Well, to make a long story a little shorter folks, this fine fishing adventure on the Ottawa couldn't have come at a better time for me. Yup, you got it. I just crossed another threshold in life. Birthday time again. Another decade has now come and gone. How else would a life long fisherman like myself, better spend his special day, than with special friends, on the water, fishing? Thank you Art! Thank you Jack! You've provided one of my best Birthday presents ever! :-)

You've helped to get my spirits rising again after going through a pretty rough last few weeks. Thanx to you boys, my attitude has risen more than a few notches and my positive energies have started to really flow again. Man, it's a powerful testimony of just what fishing and friends and fresh air, well mixed together, can have on this ol' Outdoorsy dude! <})))><

P.S. Mrs. Walleye Jack sure knows how to treat people like they are somebody! Gotta LOVE those country gals, eh! :-)

As you may already know if you've been reading any of my blogs, or even my last post, I have a thing for Ladies who Love the Outdoors. As a matter of record, I've even been married to two of them! :-) These Outdoorsy inclined women, rank as high up there as it gets on my scale of what constitutes a really fine female. There is just something very, very powerful, to do with respect and admiration for what they are willing to put themselves through to be Outdoorsy types, that pulls me like high carbon steel to a magnet, towards these awesome girls.

Today I want to share another little Outdoorsy Lady with y'all. This sweetheart pictured above is none other than Tami Curtis, an amazing girl from Texas that catches Bass like she was born to. She's very consistent on the tournament trail and has been in the Winners Circle before too.
