Sweet little Sticklebacks...


Now, I've gotta ask ya, are these little 3 Spine Sticklebacks Cool, or what? :-) They are some of the neatest examples of Outdoor related Art, that I've seen in a long time and I'm happy to share them with You to-day, right here, Hot from my fellow Flickr shooter, HappySleepy. Some signs of Spring...

Spring life...

So, a lot happens in a couple of weeks, this time of year...



This little sweety is, for the second Spring in a row, the first plant to appear in local flowerbeds. I admire the Crocus because I have even seen it coming up beside little patches of old snow and ice. Talk about a pretty little tuffy! :-)

Then, out in an old abandoned farm-site, I came across my first little patch of Day Lilies for the year, which I sampled immediately. :-) These fantastic annuals can be prepared a number of ways and can even be eaten raw, in salads. Here, the tiny shoots are ready to eat on the hoof, which, I did! :-) It's great to see them coming up again, after that heavy winter we just lived through...



A few days later, my old friend and yearly Spring tonic ingredient, the Wild Leek, pushes it's way through the hardwood forest floor to begin it's new spring life cycle again...



These lovely little wild plants are well known all over the world as Ramps and there are even Ramp Festivals celebrated by hundreds every spring in many parts of the country, they're that good. :-) Have You been out there lookin' for your free fresh food feed yet? Are You, a Leek Hunter?

I'll be headin' out tomorrow for another gander out in the wilder ares of Ottawa to see what other choice wild foods have come up since I was out last...

Advanced Coin Shooting...lb

I did a little blurb about this great detecting book a couple of years ago, over @ THunting.com on their neat Forum, to help others find more stuff. I KNOW this book is good enough to talk about again, in here, to-day. So, check to see if you can get it from a library or perhaps a book seller. It is starting to get old already ( copyright 1981) and it was published in a pretty small run, so it may be a little tricky to track down, but SO worth the effort expended.

If You are one of those that think you already know about all there is to know about finding coins and jewelery with a detector, then You Really need this man's advice and tips. Patrick shares many innovative things with his readers and his writings caused my coin take to triple the first month I started putting his powerful info to use.

Oh ya, take a poke around THunting dot com's Forum, if you like Treasure Hunting, Metal Detecting and Historical relics. You'll find some very interesting people over there, and every single one of them is into this amazing hobby.

Fleck WeedWader Spinner-bait

This hot little puppy is a high quality fishing lure, built exclusively in the United States Of America, for starters. You'll notice the ball bearing swivel that spins it's blade at even the Slowest retrieves looking like a flashing light almost. The blades on the snap can of course be changed at your whim with the sweet little snap attached to the ball bearing swivel. That is a real nice feature if you like to tinker with yer fishin' shit. ;-) Ooops, I mean stuff. :-)

Many long armed spinner-baits can do this little "collapsing" trick, but not too many Bassers utilize it much. I LOVE this feature because it makes slippin' this baby into my shirt pocket, a breeze for when I have to go grey or camo! Also, by holding the back blade and letting the lure hang, this sweetie pie, hangs exactly horizontal, as in perfectly balanced. This killer piece of lead and steel can even be used as a semi-slack line, drop bait, whereupon it slays 'em! :-)

The reason there is no skirt on this WeedWader is, I hardly EVER use any type of skirts, as such, any more. There are just way TOO many deadly plastic critters out there these days, that will blow your skirt right clean off ya if ya marry them to Your S-baits. Pick Your favorite creature or curly tail or craw-body or whatever you already have faith, or should I say Confidence in? Thread it on and watch out. You can take that to the bank too! :-)

Oh ya, one more thing, this little high-test Spinner Bait weighs only 3/16 oz. so don't try to toss that on yer level wind bassin' rig. This is true Spinning gear folks. I use it on 8 lb mono that I watch like a hawk. With a light reel attached to a light action fast taper rod, this lures flies. Great for pitchin' and flippin' as well and I've even caught Walleye's on it "strollin" in fifteen feet of water with a live minnow affixed to it's razor sharp hook. :-)

First Bike Ride of '09...

Limbering up...

Well, I think Spring has made it up to Ottawa! With the sun shining brightly on my back, I took my first bike tour of the year to-day. I headed north, to the Ottawa River to check on the situation over there. It felt REAL good to get on that mechanical pony of mine again, after a long winter lay-off. My legs felt a little shaky when I got home but it was well worth it and even that felt good again...No pain, no gain, as they say... :-)

March 15th Bikin' Tour...
